75. He leaves Rudraka and with 5 fellow-disciples he leaves for the Gaya hill on the banks of the river Nairanjana.
76. He becomes a hermit.
77. The Bodhisattva's late mother Queen Maya descends from heaven on earth to persuade her son to end his ascetic life and take food and drink again so as to regain his physical health.
78. The gods are guarding him.
79. They beseech him to take some food through the pores of his skin.
80. He comes to the conclusion that ascetism is of no use and he takes some food, which he receives from the daughters of Uruvilva.
81. He takes the clothes of a dead person.
82. At that very moment a god appears in his presence and offers him a monk's garment.
83. The following day Sujata offers him some rice and milk in a golden bowl.
84. The Bodhisattva goes to the river Niaranjana and takes a bathe.
85. He throws the old clothes into the river.
86. The daughter of the Naga King Sagara offers him a seat which he accepts.
87. He eats the remaining food.
88. He throws the cup away, which is taken by Sagara.
89. Escorted by the gods the Bodhisattva goes to Bodhimanda, where he will receive. the Enlightenment.
