FAN

There are about 35 standard Chinese characters that are spoken 'fan'. Among them are the following characters that themselves are spoken 'fan' and are sound-determining elements in more complicated characters: 反 , 犯 , 凡 , 番

The two-character version that is commonly used is:

平凡 = ping(2)fan(2) = ordinary, common

反 = reverse, in the opposite direction

饭 = cooked rice

For clarity, the two-character term is often used:
