JIN

 

There are several important characters that are spoken 'jin', which have no graphic relationship to each other. = jing(3) = well (for water) is sound-determining in some, and so is = jin(1) =  500 gram.

= gold

= present

= piece of cloth

= a traditional weight, now 500 gram; vegetables, fruit, and meat is typically quoted as in

in China; thus, this remains an important character

= tight, close (to each other)

不要紧 = bu(4) yao(4) jin(3) = it doesn't matter

= to come in

= near
