KAN
There is no predominant character element that would
determine when a character is spoken as 'kan'. But several characters spoken as
'kan' use 甘 = gan(1), the old character
for 'sweet', as sound-determining element.
kan(1)
kan(2)
kan(3)
kan(4)
看 = to see, to look at
The character is composed of two others, the one for
'hand' and the one for 'eye'. It is thus easy to remember: when we look at
something afar in bright daylight, we put a hind over our eyes, in order not to
be blinded by the bright sun.
Not to be confused with:
着 = zhao, zhe, zhuo
看到了 = kan(4)dao(4)le(-) = saw it!
/ lit. see arrive already
刊 = to publish
期刊 = qi(1) kan(1) = magazine, periodical
