谅 = liang(4) = to forgive

The following two-character word is much more common:

原谅 = yuan(2)liang(4) = to forgive, to pardon

请你原谅, 我不是... = Qing(3) ni(3) yuan(2)liang(4), wo(3) bu(4) shi(4)... = Please you forgive, I am not...

原 = original, to forgive

While both 谅 and 原 basically have the same meaning, 'to forgive', neither is usually used alone; instead, the two characters are combined for clarity, in both spoken and written Chinese.
